Excessive Heat Watch In Effect Friday Afternoon

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE DANGEROUS HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 105 TO 110 DEGREES FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS…STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM…STAY OUT OF THE SUN…AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY ARE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT STROKE. NO PERSON OR PET SHOULD EVER STAY IN AN ENCLOSED VEHICLE EVEN FOR THE SHORTEST AMOUNT OF TIME. TEMPERATURES QUICKLY RISE TO LIFE- THREATENING LEVELS…EVEN IF THE WINDOWS ARE PARTIALLY OPEN.
