SCV Youth Project – Sweet Charity Cake Auction
It’s here, the 3rd Annual Sweet Charity Cake Auction and Competition.  This fun event is a creative way for local companies, charities, schools and others to promote themselves.  And it’s all done in cake – luscious, delectable cakes.  The cakes are paired with unique gifts, such as, trip certificates, baskets and gift certificates, that create an innovative and valuable auction item. Canyon Theatre Guild – Little Women
The enchanting and classic tale, “Little Women,” that tells the story of the March girls: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, is coming to Canyon Theatre Guild.  This play, based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, tells the story of the March girls who are left at home with their mother, whom they call Marmee, while their father is serving in the Civil War.  The March family is poor but full of love.  Tickets are $10-12 for juniors and seniors and $12-15 for adults.  Call 799-2702 for tickets.  Canyon Theatre is located at 24242 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.  Saturday and Sunday matinee are at 2:00pm on 4/9, 4/16, 4/17 and 4/23.  Sunday’s shows are at 6:30pm on 4/10.  Canyon Theatre is offering a KHTS special ticket offer for Sunday’s 6:30pm performance: buy one, get one free.  Click here for a story on Canyon Theatre’s Little Women.

COC – Women’s Conference 2011
Explore the diverse and ever changing role of women in today’s society at the College of the Canyons Women’s Conference 2011 presented by Boston Scientific Valencia-Neuromodulation.  Saturday’s conference will help stimulate reflective and inspirational dialogue.  A panel of invited speakers and guests will explore the role of women in government, education, business, science and medicine, community service and family.  The keynote speaker will be Lisa Shannon, professional photographer, author and founder of Run for Congo Women.  Saturday’s conference will take place from 8am-4pm on the COC Valencia campus.  Admission is $49 to attend the full conference, including breakout sessions, light brunch and keynote speaker session, or $24 to attend the keynote speaker session only.  Purchase tickets on-line.  Click here for a story on the Women’s Conference.

Assistance League – Footsteps 5K Run/Walk
The whole family can participate in the Assistance League Footsteps Run Walk and help clothe a child.  This family friendly event offers a 5K and a 1K Kiddie Fun Run.  Check in and race day registration begins at 6:30am on Sunday at Newhall Park.  The Kids 1K begins at 8am.  The 5K begins at 8:15am at Newhall Park and continues down and back on the South Fork Trail.  Awards will be awarded at the end of each race.  Proceeds from the race benefit the Assistance League Operation School Bell Program which provides clothing and shoes to elementary and junior high school children.  The Assistance League’s all volunteer membership will be helping on race day.  The races will run rain or shine.  Click here for a story on the Assistance League.

FastFrame Valencia – Art Contest For Kids
Let your children’s imagination take flight for FastFrame Valencia “My Favorite Fairy Tale” Art Contest for Kids.  The contest is for grades 1 through 5.  Artwork should be taken to FastFrame Valencia until May 7.   A first place winner will be chosen from among the entries.  It will be framed for free by FastFrame owners, Randy Burznynski and Rose-Marie Longon.  The first place winner will be sent off to the FastFrame corporate office for judging in a national contest.  The artist winning first place at the national level will receive a $250 Disney gift card, with an additional $250 gift card to go towards art supplies for the winner’s school.  The national winning piece will be displayed on the corporate FastFrame website in the month of June 2011.  FastFrame Valencia is located at 24204 Valencia Boulevard in the Kohl’s/Whole Foods center.  Stop by to see Randy or Rose-Marie for contest rules or give them a call at 291-1325.
