Local Band-Bridge 22
Local band Bridge 22 invites everyone to their “Falling Upward” album release party.  Bridge 22 is an alternative-progressive rock band.  Band members are Ricky Vittallo, lead vocalist/rhythm guitar; Adrian Calvillo, lead guitarist/backup vocals; Rafael Chavez, bassist; and Jaboc Sommers, drummer.  Their songs often are based on actual experiences, reflecting their thoughts and ideas.  Their album release party is set for 8pm, Saturday at The Vue on 8th Street in Old Town Newhall.  Click here to listen to an interview with Bridge 22 on KHTS’ Thursday Matinee with Paul Strickland.  To read a story by Christopher Glotfelty on Bridge 22, click here

SCV Film Festival
Creative film work will be on display at the 6th Annual SCV Film Festival.  The festival will focus on films appropriate for all ages in both feature-length and short format.  This year, in addition to professional and college submissions, there will be a high school category.  Each film is directed, filmed and staring some of Santa Clarita’s brightest and best high school, college and professional filmmakers.  The Film Festival will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Repertory East Playhouse located at 24266 Main Street in Newhall.  Day passes are $5 for students/seniors and $8 for adults.  For tickets email info@scvfilmfestival.com or call 661-251-0274.  Visit the website for information on SCV Film Festival and a line-up of the films to be presented.

E-Waste Collections At Local High Schools
Did you get new electronics this Christmas?  Are you looking for ways to recycle your old stuff?  Four high schools in Santa Clarita can help you.  Canyon High AP Environmental Science Class is holding their E-Waste Collection Saturday from 10am-4pm in the parking lot.  Valencia High Softball will be collecting Saturday from 10am-3pm in the student parking lot.  Golden Valley Sports will be collecting Saturday from 9am-3pm.  Hart High will be collecting Saturday and Sunday from 9am-4pm at the circular driveway in front of the school.  Acceptable electronics include:  computer monitors and towers, televisions, copiers, fax machines, cell phones, telephones, speakers, VCR/DVD players and printers.  Click here for a story on the collections. 

Placerita Nature Center
Our local treasure, Placerita Nature Center, offers a Family Nature Walk and Native Live Animal Presentation every Saturday.  These programs are free and fun for the whole family.  This Saturday the Nature Center is offering a docent led Bird Walk starting at 9am for beginning to advanced birders.  Bring binoculars, a field guide and water.  Visit their website for information on the Nature Center’s trails and programs.  You may want to sign up for Docent Naturalist Training.  Click here to read about Ron Kraus of Placerita Nature Center interview on KHTS’ Non-Profit Spotlight Show with Janice Murray.
