Providence Blood Drive
The need for blood does not take a vacation – only you can prevent a blood shortage.  Providence Holy Cross is holding a blood drive Sunday at the Valencia mall, right outside the KHTS kiosk, between Sisley’s and Friday’s.  All donors will receive a complimentary coupon of a pint of Baskin Robbins ice cream.  Call 818-926-6245 to make an appointment or go on-line.

Newhallywood on Location: History of Film/TV in the SCV
Wonder where the final scene from the silent era was filmed?  Or where John Wayne first put on spurs?  Or where professional killer Frank Sinatra once tried to assassinate the president?  These and hundreds of other film and television locations are right here in the SCV.  Santa Clarita has been used as Hollywood’s backlot since the earliest days of cinema.  Early producers called our area “Newhallywood”.  The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is holding a Newhallywood class on Saturdays from 1-4pm on July 10, 17, 24, and 31.   Call 254-1275.

CareerCamp SCV
Unemployed, under-employed, a new graduate?  COC has the day for you – CareerCamp SCV.  This free Saturday un-conference is for adults who want to examine their career options to build the career they deserve.  The day will include speakers, ad-hoc presentations and breakout sessions on all aspects of building and improving your career.  This is a community event where people exchange ideas, build strong networking relationships and build self-empowerment through a challenging transition in their lives.  Come to the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center at College of the Canyons from 9am to 3pm.  Free parking.

Concerts in the Park
You know SCV is experiencing full-on summer when Concerts in the Park starts.  Saturday’s free concert features Incendio, a world fusion Latin guitar group.  The City’s free summer concerts at Central Park on Bouquet are a perfect way to spend summer evening with family, friends and neighbors.  The concert runs from 7-10pm.  Food and beverages will be available.  For more information on Incendio, visit:

Deputy Cameron Glover Golf Memorial Open
Help support the Glover Family by entering the Day of Golf Memorial Open on Monday at the Valencia Country Club.  Deputy Sheriff Cameron Glover was assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.  He died in an off-duty traffic collision on April 28, 2010.  The day of golf is in his honor.  Tee off time is 8:30am.  Come play or sponsor a green or be a cart sponsor.  Glover left his high school sweetheart-turned-wife, Jennifer who is seven months pregnant with their first child.  Jennifer was left with minimal benefits since the accident was considered off-duty.  You can also show support by sending a donation to First Bank on McBean Parkway in Valencia.  Check should be made payable to Jennifer Glover with a memo note “Deputy Glover Memorial Fund”.  All money raised will go to Jennifer and their first child.

Discovery Park Grand Opening
Join the Santa Clarita City Council for the grand opening of Discovery Park on Monday at 10:00am.  The park site is located off Soledad and Camp Plenty at Calla Way. Discovery Park is a 25 acre natural park that is also the City’s first passive park.  RSVP required.  Call 255-4939
