What:  4th of July Parade
When:  Monday, July 4 starting at 9:00am
Where:  Old Town Newhall: mile-long route travels down Main Street, Lyons Avenue and Orchard Village Road and finishes at 16th Street
Details:  Celebrate our Nation’s birthday at Santa Clarita’s Annual 4th of July Parade.  Don’t miss the floats, horses, All-SCV High School Marching Band, fire trucks, kids, cars, military, music and more.  This year’s theme is “Women’s Right To Vote”.  Take advantage of the SC Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast in the Roger Dunn parking lot before the parade.  Click here for an excellent story on the Parade by KHTS’ Carol Rock.   Click here for the Parade lineup.    Click here for street closures, map route and further information       

What:  July 4th Fireworks Show & KHTS Soundtrack
When:  Monday, July 4, 9:15pm
Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center – fireworks will be launched from parking lot roof across from Salt Creek Grille
Details:  “Turn your eyes to the skies” for the City of Santa Clarita 4th of July Fireworks Show.   While watching the fireworks, tune your radio to KHTS AM-1220 for a live soundtrack broadcast.  Come early for a parking spot to enjoy the show.  Click here for information on the show, viewing area, parking and road closures.

Jazz & Blues Concert
When:  Fridays from 7-9:30pm through August 26
Where: Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway
Details:  This is the 13th year for this family-friendly series done with a street party atmosphere.  A variety of food and beverages, including wine and beer for adults, will be available.  No pets or outside food or beverages are allowed.  Admission is free.  This Friday, July 1, features Shari Puorto, “a soulful singer with a raspy sound” that “immediately brings Janis Joplin to mind”.  This concert will also have a special featured soloist performance by KHTS’ own Marie Pyle.  Click here to read “Marie Pyle, The Girl With The Golden Voice” by KHTS writer Juliana Menchaca.   Call 661-290-2911.  Visit:  ValenciaJazzAndBlues.com   

What:  Independence Day Classic Run/Walk – 29th Annual – Kids K, 5K Race/Walk, 10K Race & 15K Challenge
When:  Monday, July 4 from 7-10am
Where:  Newhall Park, 24933 Newhall Avenue
Details:  With 28 previous years behind this event, this year’s race/walk surely will be successful.  Event planner/sponsor, Santa Clarita Runners, has built rewards and fun into the event while keeping the spirit of Independence Day.  There is a race for every level of experience and age.  Pre-registration and packet pick-up will be on Sunday, July 3 from 11am-3pm at Dick’s Sporting Goods located at 26591 Carl Boyer Drive.  Proceeds benefit the Santa Clarita Valley High School Athletics.  Click here for more information and on-line registration.
