23rd Annual Memorial Day Ceremony
The Memorial Day Ceremony at Eternal Valley brings the community together to celebrate, honor and remember America’s heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty.  Monday you’ll experience a stirring tribute to veterans that will include flag ceremonies, music, recognition of veterans, refreshments and a flyover from the Condor Squadron.  The Master of Ceremonies will be retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Duane Harte.  SCV Service members lost since September 11, 2001 and SCV Gold Star families will be honored with a special tribute given by Dick Jeffrey and City Councilman Bob Kellar.  This year’s keynote speaker is Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.  The Santa Clarita Valley Concert Band and the SCV Master Chorale will be performing.  Following the ceremony there will be a reading of the names inscribed on the Veterans Memorial Wall.  All this will have a backdrop of over 5,000 American flags placed on the graves of veterans by local Brownies, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.  Monday’s event starts at 10:00am and runs approximately one hour.  Eternal Valley is located at 23287 N. Sierra Highway in Newhall.  See the next entry for a community lunch invitation from American Legion Post 507.  Click here to read a story on the 23nd Memorial Day Ceremony 2011.

Fallen Warrior Memorial Bridge
The public is invited to the dedication of the Fallen Warrior Memorial Bridge, previously known at the Cross Valley Connector.  The new name was chosen to commemorate all four branches of the armed forces – Army, Marines, Air Force and Navy – who have given their lives in the service of our country.  A memorial plaque, containing the names of current residents who died in the line of duty while serving in the war on terrorism, will also be dedicated.  The dedication of the bridge will be held Thursday at 10am at the corner of Golden Valley Road and Valley Center Drive, at the south end of the bridge.  Click here for a story by KHTS’ Carol Rock on the dedication.
