CalArts – Wild Beast Series
A free outdoor music event is offered in CalArts’ Wild Beast Concert Series.  Last May CalArts dedicated its new indoor/outdoor music venue, The Wild Beast and The S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard.  Sunday’s 4pm offering will bring us the spirit of ancient Greek theater during Iannis Xenakis’s rarely staged opera, Orestia.  CalArts students, faculty and alumni will perform.  A 13-piece ensemble of wind instruments, brass and amplified solo cello will be joined by CalArts faculty baritone soloist Paul Berkolds and conductor by Mark Menzies.

Rancho Camulos, where history, myth and romance of Old California still linger, is holding Ramona Days, a unique event not to be missed.  You’ll experience “all things Ramona” at this setting of American novelist Helen Hunt Jackson’s book, Ramona.  The book was written in 1884 and tells the story of California’s colonial past through the central character, Ramona, an orphan girl who is part-Scottish and part-Native American.  Ramona Days at Rancho Camulos offers you a return to old California with play scenes, music and dance.  There will be food, shopping, kid activities and fun for the entire family.  The Rancho’s living history presentations and exhibits will bring to life old Ramona days this Saturday from 10am-4pm.  Rancho Camulos is close by on Highway 126.   Click here for a story on Ramona Days.
