Woman of Honor–Betty Ferguson Foundation
The Betty Ferguson Foundation will be honoring Jacquie Peterson in appreciation and recognition of her service to the Santa Clarita Valley.  The Woman of Honor Dinner will be held Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.  There will be a special “Tribute to 9/11” as part of the ceremonies.  In addition, there will be dinner, dancing, entertainment and an auction with items including a stay at Clint Eastwood’s Mission Ranch Carmel, Beyond Harmony Med Spa package and a diamond and mother of pearl 14 carat white gold pendant.

Hometown Heroes–American Red Cross
Celebrate at our Hometown Heroes Award Brunch with the local American Red Cross.  This heartwarming event celebrates the behind-the-scenes efforts of many Santa Clarita Heroes.  Nomination criteria for Hometown Heroes include:  prevention of loss of life or property, community impact, leadership or mentoring, and making a lasting impact.  There are eleven categories of heroes to be honored: Medical Hero, Youth Hero (through 17), Military Hero, Adult Hero (18-59), Educator Hero, Workplace Hero, Senior Hero (60+), First Responder Hero, Corporate Hero, Youth Sports Hero, and Mentor Hero. The American Red Cross is here to help Santa Clarita during an emergency, and now you can support this incredible organization by saluting our local heroes on Saturday, September 11 at 11am at the Santa Clarita Activities Center at Center Point.  For more iCall for tickets at 661-259-1805.

Veterans Memorial Park Ceremony
There will be a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park to honor lives the lost on 9/11.  The ceremony is also a tribute to our first responders, and a way to show support for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.  The ceremony will take place on Saturday from 10am-1pm starting with a Reading of Names Flag Ceremony.  A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post 507 on Spruce Street in Newhall.  There is a suggested donation of $5 to benefit the Iraq Star Foundation that assists those American troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.  RSVP by calling 818-634-5854 or email at 911Memorial2010@gmail.com

River Rally Clean-Up & Environmental Expo
Help maintain the one of the last natural rivers in Southern California – our own Santa Clara River.  Join the 2010 River Rally Clean-Up and Environmental Expo.  Meet Saturday at the Soledad Shopping Center near the Canyon Country Post Office  from 8-11am.  Participants will be provided with gloves and trash bags to help with the cleanup.  Also, there will be snacks and special giveaways.  Click here for a story on the River Rally.  Call Environmental Services at 661-286-4098.

9/11 Tribute – Castaic Sports Complex
A special 9/11 tribute will be held at the Castaic Sports Complex on Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30pm.  There will be a special speaker, Rick Godinez, a local firefighter that went to help at ground zero immediately following 9/11.  The Young Marines will be Color Guard.  To help celebrate, there will be music by Voices of Peace and a Tribute Walk.  Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served.

Leaders of Character Recognition Dinner-Boy Scouts of America
When:  Saturday, September 18, 2010
Where:  Odyssey Restaurant, Granada Hills
About:    Join Arif Halaby of Total Financial Solutions at the 5th Annual Leaders of Character Recognition Dinner honoring:  Greg & Shel Amsler and Buck & Pat McKeon.  There will be a live and virtual auction.  The evening benefits the SCV Boy Scouts Service Center and over 2,000 local Boy Scouts.
