‘Handprints’ Help Kids Chase Big, Bold Dreams

TV’s Judge Hatchett featured on Families in Action.hatchett

Television’s Judge Glenda A. Hatchett was a special guest on today’s Families in Action show with Cary Quashen and Stephanie Weiss. Hatchett’s appearance coincided with National Families Week, and she discussed important ways parents can support and empower their children to lead successful lives.

Hatchett is the driving force behind the One Million Dreams Initiative, which aims to inspire parents and children to pursue and achieve their goals. The program encourages parents to ask their children what they would do if they could do anything in the world.

“Write [their answer] in bold letters,” said Hatchett. “and then you post it on the ceiling above their bed. Why? Because I want it to be the first thing they see every morning when they wake up and the last thing they see every night when they go to bed. We’ve got to be in the business of posting big, bold dreams.”

Hatchett seeks to act as an advocate for children everywhere. Her new website, parentpowernow.com, will serve as a social networking center for parents and mentors to work together to create a “handprint of greatness” in the lives of their children. Parentpowernow.com will launch fully January 1.

“I want [parents] to have a safe place to come and raise questions, to gain support,” said Hatchett.

Through her show, speaking engagements, and her book “Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say,” Hatchett’s work seeks to empower parents, strengthen families, and inspire children. Her philosophy stresses honesty, accountability, and positive reinforcement as keys tools in teaching children to lead successful lives.

Hatchett is an arbitrator in the State of New York and the rulings she issues on her television show, “Judge Hatchett,” are binding. She also spent nearly nine years as the Chief Presiding Judge of Atlanta’s Fulton County Juvenile Court System, one of the largest such systems in the nation.
