Family Promise Officials Collecting Socks For “Socktober”

Family Promise SCV officials are collecting socks for the needy in conjunction with the national event “Socktober.”

In a creative effort to provide socks to the homeless, Family Promise SCV will be participating in a national sock collection drive for local homeless people, according to a news release about the event.

“We are going to be sharing some of the socks with the winter homeless shelter that opens here in December,” said Chris Najarro, the executive director of Family Promise.

Najarro hopes that the organization can collect up to 500 pairs of socks through the Socktober event.

Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, SoulPancake and Kid President want 2 million people to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless, according to the national organization’s website.

Spearheaded by the internet sensation “Kid President,” the national sock drive aims to raise awareness about the homeless and help keep their feet warm this winter, according to the news release.

“We are encouraging residents and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley to help collect new socks to donate to our local homeless community,” said Laurie Ender, President of Family Promise SCV. “We would love to see residents get their workplaces and congregations involved by collecting pairs of socks.”

“This is a great project to do as a family, with schools and neighborhoods; we’re encouraging everyone to participate in this national collection drive,” said Ender.

Once participants collect socks, they should call Family Promise of SCV to schedule a pickup or drop-off at (661) 251-2868.  Family Promise will deliver the socks to those who need them the most.

KHTS will also be collecting new socks through October and will deliver them to Family Promise for you.

“One sock, two sock, red sock blue sock.  It doesn’t matter the color, we want your donation of new socks,” according to Family Promise officials.
