More than 800 students who are completing the Hart School District’s five-week Intensive Literacy Program (ILP) this week will share their success with family members at the traditional Family Reading Festival Thursday evening, July 20, at Hart High School and Sierra Vista Junior High School.
The Family Reading Festival encourages ongoing family support and gives students a chance to show off the new skills they have gained during the summer session. Participants historically have averaged two to three levels growth in reading skills during the five-week program. The program has received the prestigious Golden Bell award from the California School Boards Association and has been featured in a guidebook on outstanding literacy programs published by the National School Boards Association.
