Driver not wearing seat belt, is ejected from the vehicle.
A San Diego woman died early Saturday morning when the car she was driving crashed through the guard rail and plummeted over the side of the I-5 above Castaic.
Sgt. Rob Lund of the California Highway Patrol reported that Mira Tijeira, 26, was driving northbound on the I-5 just south of Vista del Lago at about 3 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle and skidded across two lanes, breaking through the wood and metal guard rail.
Her car left the roadway and went approximately 300 feet over the side. Tijeira was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of her three passengers were also not wearing seatbelts; one suffered two broken legs and the other suffered a fractured spine. A fourth passenger, who was wearing their belt, complained of minor pain to their back and neck.
