Motorcyclist dies in collision with truck.
UPDATED 5:31 p.m. 1/28/08
A 20-year-old motorcyclist lost his life Monday afternoon riding up Camp Plenty Road.
Deputy Richard Phares told KTHS that the young man was traveling at a high rate of speed shortly after 3 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle and skidded into a pickup truck being driven by an unidentified man.
Paramedics at the scene tried to resuscitate the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Camp Plenty Road was blocked between Nadal Street and Rosamond Drive to allow for accident investigation.
As deputies waited for the coroner to arrive, several of the victim’s friends gathered at the scene, consoling each other. Phares said that the victim lived in the area.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital to have blood drawn.
“As we do with all fatals, we want to eliminate the possibility that alcohol was involved,” he said.
The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of his family.
