A new and improved celebration of creativity, aptly called the Santa Clarita Festival of the Arts, will take over the streets of Old Town Newhall October 3 and 4.
Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 5th Street will come alive with color and activity for the free outdoor festival that will feature a variety of artisans creating visual art, including plein air paintings, woodcarving, sculpture, and pottery, as well as live entertainment, fine arts and crafts vendors and the popular chalk art street painters.
There are a variety of opportunities to get involved in the festival as an artist.
Art Stop Project: The Festival of the Arts seeks to commission 10 artworks for the Art Stop Project, an Art In Public Places program. In the month of September, the chosen artworks will be featured in 10 transit bus shelters throughout the city, as well as be included in the advertising efforts of the upcoming Festival of the Arts.
Artists using a variety of mediums including photography, paint, multimedia, etc. are encouraged to submit existing or new works based on the theme “Watch Art! Create Art! Live Art!” An artist may submit no more than two (2) existing or new artworks for consideration. Download an application at www.scfestivalofthearts.com/project.asp.
