The local chapter of the 501^st Legion is hosting a food drive, and this one plans to be out of this world.

The food drive is hosted by the Southern California Garrison in an effort to collect canned food donations for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry.

The drive is scheduled for July18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pavilions on Mcbean Parkway, with a goal of collecting 1,000 cans for the Food Pantry.

The Garrison are a local chapter of the 501^st Legion, a world-wide organization of all volunteer Star Wars costuming fan club.

Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, Sand Troopers and more will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

“[They’re] a group of Star Wars fans, that dress up in screen accurate costumes, and do charity events,” said Zadrian Eisenmann, co-owner of Area 9 Production, who is sponsoring the event.

Shanica Knowles, who plays Amber on Disney’s “Hannah Montana”, will also be there singing and signing autographs starting at 1 p.m.

The event is free but to get your picture taken with the characters, participants are asked to make a canned food donation to the SCV Food Pantry.
