The year 2017 is over, and at the beginning of every next year, the Forbes magazine creates the compilations of the most successful and rich people of this world. In 2018, the magazine has created the list of top 23 wealthiest people on the African continent in 2017. If you want to know who the richest man in Africa is, keep reading.   1. Aliko Dangote – It is not a surprise to anybody that Aliko Dangote is the leader on this list and holds the honorable title of the wealthiest businessman in Africa seven years in a row. The net worth of this raw material tycoon and cement trader has increased for $100 million and at the end of 2017 and was estimated to be $12.2 billion.
  1. Nicky Oppenheimer – The second position is held by the businessman from South Africa who is an owner of diamond mining in the country. He has managed to increase his net worth for $700 million in comparison with the previous year. Now his estimated net worth is $7.7 billion.
  1. Johann Rupert – The third position is also held by the resident of South Africa. Johann Rupert net worth is $7.2 billion.
  1. Nassef Sawiris – This businessman is the fourth on this list and the richest man in Egypt. He has managed to increase his net worth in comparison with the previous year ($5.3 billion). Now Nassef Sawiris’s net worth is $6.8 billion.
  1. Mike Adenuga – One more Nigerian on our list is a telecommunication tycoon, and his estimated net worth is $5.3 billion.
  1. Issad Rebrab – This businessman from Algeria is on the sixth place with his net worth of $4 billion.
  1. Naguib Sawiris – The brother of Nassef Sawiris is on the seventh place, and his net worth is $4 billion.
  1. Koos Bekker – And again on our list appears South African who managed to accumulate the wealth worth of $2.8 billion.
  1. Isabel dos Santos – There are two ladies on the list of the richest people in Africa, and Isabel dos Santos is one of them. Her father was the former president of Angola. The net worth of this business lady is now $2.7 billion. It has decreased a bit in comparison with her net worth in 2016 ($3.2 billion). The main reason for this is the decreased earnings of Angolan bank Banco BCI that has appeared due to the difficulties in the oil production sphere.
  1. Mohamed Mansour – One more Egyptian on the list has managed to earn the wealth amounting to $2.7 billion.
  1. Patrice Motsepe – As you see, South African again on our list and his net worth is $2.4 billion.
  1. Aziz Akhannouch – This Moroccan has managed to accumulate the wealth amounting to $2.2 billion.
  1. Yasseen Mansour – This Egyptian tycoon has accumulated on his accounts $1.9 billion.
  1. Strive Masiyiwa – This man is the first billionaire from Zimbabwe. He is a telecommunication tycoon and head of the Econet Group and the owner of shares of Liquid Telecom (a fiber-optic organization). At the moment, the net worth of Strive Masiyiwa is $1.7 billion.
  1. Folorunsho Alakija – You have learned already about one of two richest ladies on the list. Now it’s time to learn about the second one. She is the richest woman in Nigeria and a proud of her native country. The current net worth of Folorunsho Alakija is $1.6 billion.
  1. Othman Benjelloun – The second resident of Morocco on the list is the tycoon in banking and insurance spheres.  Othman Benjelloun’s net worth is estimated to be $1.6 billion.
  1. Mohammed Dewji – He is the youngest billionaire on the list. Mohammed Dewji is forty-two now. He has inherited a group of textile and food companies from his father and expanded them by his hard work. The net worth of this businessman is $1.5 billion.
  1. Youssef Mansour – One more rich Egyptian on the list of the richest in Africa is Youssef Mansour. His estimated net worth is $1.4 billion.
  1. Michiel le Roux – South Africa is rich in billionaires, and there are 8 billionaires from this country on the Forbes list of the richest men in Africa. The next South African billionaire on our list is the founder and former chairman of Capitec Bank, Michiel le Roux. His net worth is $1.2 billion.
  1. Stephen Saad – Another resident of South Africa on our list is Stephen Saad with the net worth of $1.2 billion.
  1. Desmond Sacco – The fourth place is occupied by South African mining tycoon, Desmond Sacco. The prices for his company’s stock have increased by 60% in 2017. This allowed the businessman to return to this list. His net worth is estimated to be $1.1 billion.
  1. Onsi Sawiris – This 88-years old billionaire is the oldest on this list. Onsi Sawiris is the founder of Orascom Construction that was privatized. After that, Onsi Sawiris has managed to create one more construction company from scratch. His net worth is $1.1 billion. By the way, his two sons also managed to earn their billions. Two of his sons are on our list: one is the fourth and the second is the seventh.
  1. Christoffel Wiese – At the end of previous year, there were found inaccuracies in the accounting of the Steinhoff International Company. As the result, the price for shares fall down and the businessman has left the list of billionaires and resigned from his position on this wave.

However, the calculation carried out by Forbes at the beginning of January in 2018 has shown that Christoffel Wiese has $1.1 billion on his accounts. Now he is the last on our list but only one year before his wealth was estimated around $5.5 billion. So, we can conclude that the state of business of this rich man is not so bright, also, taking into the consideration the fact that on the 10th of January the net worth of Christoffel Wiese again falls below $1 billion mark.

Conclusions

13 of 23 billionaires on the list of the richest people in Africa have managed to increase their wealth. 4 businessmen were not so lucky, and their net worth decreased in comparison with the previous year. The rest remained on the same level of their earnings.

If to talk about the countries, 8 billionaires are from South Africa, 6 – live and work in Egypt, 3 – in Nigeria, 2 – in Morocco, 1 – Algeria, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.
