UPDATED 3:22 p.m. LA County Fire has knockdown on a fire at a single story strip mall at 17223 W. Sierra Highway.

Sierra Highway, which had been closed in both directions for nearly two hours, is now completely open. Fire investigators, city code enforcement and building and safety officials are still on the scene.

The street was closed in both directions shortly after 12:30 when the first responders arrived. The fire was confined to one unit that appeared to be a woodworking shop.

Heavy smoke drifted over the north campus of COC, causing concerns for afternoon students.

No cause has been determined for the fire.
