Firefighters And Sheriffs Endorse Measure M

Measure M will appear on the November 7 ballot.

SANTA CLARITA–Los Angeles County Firefighters and the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs have endorsed Measure M, a ballot initiative that will be on the November 7 general election ballot.  Measure M will provide funds for College of the Canyons to add critically-needed classrooms and labs, and ease overcrowding at the college.

College of the Canyons provides training for future firefighters through its fire technology program and also provides in-service training for active firefighters both in the classroom as well as a specialized facility in Del Valle.

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs runs its North Academy on the College of the Canyons campus, providing comprehensive training for this critical public safety agency.  College of the Canyons also offers an Administration of Justice program through its credit curriculum, providing critical academic preparation for future generations of law enforcement personnel.

The current classroom and lab crisis at College of the Canyons forces both programs to compete for spaces in which to hold critical classes. Measure M is a general obligation bond measure that seeks to provide College of the Canyons with $160 million in capital funds to add classrooms, ease the crowding on the main campus, construct permanent buildings at its Canyon Country campus, and insure that there are adequate facilities for training of firefighters, law enforcement personnel, nurses, and other professions critical to the health and safety of our communities. Measure M will appear on the November 7 ballot.
