Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters discovered a burned body early Wednesday in the Castaic area, and detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the location, after Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel extinguished a fire at the site.

The body has not been identified and authorities have not determined the gender or age.

Los Angeles County firefighters found the remains after a report of a brush fire at 6 a.m. on Lake Hughes Road and Castaic Road.

Aerial video showed several Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department vehicles along Lake Hughes Road. The body was located on the side of the two-lane road.

Authorities are conducting a search for a missing college student north of the location in the Castaic Lake area, but there was no indication the discovery is connected to that investigation.
