Fires Blaze throughout Southern California

A brush fire that broke out just before 2 pm in the hills of Chatsworth, near Rocky Peak , had burned twelve hundred acres and was five percent contained as of 7 pm Wednesday. Fanned by high winds, the fire prompted a mandatory evacuation of homes in Box Canyon, as well as a trailer park located in the Woolsey Canyon portions of Chatsworth. The 118 freeway is also closed East and West at Topanga Canyon .  Some seven hundred fire personnel from Los Angeles, Ventura and the U.S. Department of Forestry are fighting the blaze on the ground and from the air.

Two brush fires, one in Lake Elizabeth, burning between fifteen and twenty acres and a one acre blaze in Acton were both knocked down by early evening. Neither fire threatened structures.
