The first extended heat wave of the season is approaching the inland areas according to the National Weather Service.
A strong high-pressure system over the desert southwest has expanded and as a result is expected to anchor itself over Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, Catalina Island, San Fernando Valley, and San Gabriel Valley.
Valley temperatures are expected to climb into the 90’s, while mountain and Antelope Valley temperatures could soar past 100 degrees.

Monsoonal moisture may filter into the area creating uncomfortable humidity for portions of the mountains and interior valleys.
Residents of these locations are encouraged to prepare for this heat wave by avoiding staying outdoors for extended periods of time, drinking an abundant amount of water, limiting any outdoor strenuous activity, and wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
