Food Pantry Gets Help From Middle School Students

Rancho Pico Jr. High students gather thousands of cans for Santa Clarita Food Pantry

Rancho Pico Jr. High’s food drive is currently on its last day, and after three weeks of gathering canned goods in every homeroom, approximately two thousand cans were collected for our local food pantry.

Janette Foute, an assistant librarian at Rancho Pico, said on Friday that she had high expectations for the last day of the drive. “We currently have about two thousand cans, but today is our last day, and I expect two thousand more cans to come in.  We turn in the food next Thursday, and I think we’ll be able to bring four thousand cans in.”

But its not too late for the community.  “If anyone has cans that they would like to donate, we really encourage them to donate on Monday or Tuesday, and then we’ll have even more food to bring to the Food Pantry on Thursday,” says Foute.
