This year's "Saxtravaganza" will be held in the Hart High Auditorium
[view:node_ad=5]This Sunday, beginning at 7 p.m., you are invited to attend a free public concert featuring an all-saxophone band, under the direction of Kathleen Maxwell, Santa Clarita's own "saxophone lady". The musicians, ranging in age from 12 to 70, will be performing a number of classic pieces as well as a few new arrangements performed by some of the group's members.
A variety of musical styles and composers will be featured in the July program, including Pachabel's “Canon and Gigue”, 2 short works by Bach, and Beethoven's “Rondino”. For those who love romantic works, Rossini's ever-popular Overture from "William Tell" and the beautiful “Agnus Dei” from Bizet's L'Arlesienne Suite, no.2, will be sure to please.
Fresh arrangements portraying foot stomping styles of American ragtime, Kentucky bluegrass, and even some well-known movie theme music, will surely delight the young as well as the young at heart. Saxtravaganza is made up of some of this area's finest saxophone students, adult hobbyists, teachers and professional players, who come together each year to mentor and to be mentored.
If you would like to join these musicians, please contact Kathleen Maxwell at (661) 291-1729. All applicants must audition and either be high school students, with a minimum of two years ensemble experience, and a teacher referral, or college students, adult hobbiests, and seasoned professionals who have completed registration requirements.
