Free Art Showcase Celebrates 50 Years of Department Of Mental Health Services In SCV

BrushThe Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LA DMH) will celebrate 50 years of providing services in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys with a free art showcase, featuring the work of local artists who have benefited from LACDMH services.

The theme of the artwork is “Celebration,” and the showcase will feature more than 80 pieces, such as paintings, drawings, mixed-media, poetry and rap music.  Artists include both children and adults.  The community is invited to enjoy this event, which will offer food, drinks and a resource fair where people in need can find information and resources about mental health issues.

For half a century, the LACDMH has fostered hope, wellness and recovery, making it possible for adults and children living in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys to receive the help they need in their own community.  Mental health services enable people to live healthy and complete lives, keep families together, assist workers so that they can contribute to society and make our communities safer for everyone.

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health is the largest county-operated mental health department in the United States, directly operating 75 program sites and more than 100 co-located sites.  Each year, it contracts with approximately 1,000 agencies and individual practitioners to provide a spectrum of mental health services to more than 250,000 residents of all ages.

The Department’s mission is to enrich lives through partnership to strengthen our community’s capacity to support recovery and resiliency. It is accomplished by working with stakeholders and community partners to provide clinically competent, culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate mental health services to clients in the least restrictive manner possible.

This art showcase will be held on Friday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at 23501 Cinema Drive, Valencia, CA 91355.
