Free Immunizations For Children

khts_healthWith school starting in just a matter of weeks, the Northeast Valley Health Corporation (NEVHC) is preparing to help students stay healthy by hosting a free back-to-school immunization event from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on August 11 at the NEVHC Santa Clarita Health Center, located at 18533 Soledad Canyon Rd.

“Immunizing children not only helps to maintain their health, but the health of their families, friends and classmates.” said Debra Rosen, RN and Director of NEVHC’s Public Health, Chronic Disease and Health Education programs.

At the event, free childhood immunizations will be provided to children six weeks to 18 years of age.  Parents must accompany the child and present the child’s yellow immunization record before vaccines can be administered.

In addition to the immunizations, the NEVHC Santa Clarita Health Center will offer a child ID program (fingerprinting), health plan/insurance assistance and enrollment information, and goody bags.

Held in observance of National Health Center Week, the event is designed to raise awareness about the importance of childhood immunizations.

“One of the main target groups for the Santa Clarita Health Center is children; we chose to offer this immunization event to honor our focus on keeping the children of the Santa Clarita Valley healthy,” said Helen Arriola, NEVHC’s Director of Development and External Affairs.

The new NEVHC health center in Santa Clarita and the co-located Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinic expect to welcome 125 people through their doors each day.  The health center will target low-income women, children and families in the communities of Santa Clarita and Canyon Country to expand their access to primary health care services.

NEVHC health centers work to reduce or eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities by providing access to comprehensive and affordable care. Located in “medically underserved” areas, NEVHC health centers provide primary and preventive services regardless of people’s ability to pay, follow rigorous performance and accountability requirements and are a cost-effective means of keeping people healthy and out of hospital emergency rooms.

Sponsors for the event include: L.A. Care Health Plan, Old West Masonic Lodge and NEVHC-WIC.
