From Concerts In The Park To The National Stage

The Concerts in the Park series is a Santa Clarita tradition. A free concert series held during the summer nights, the Concerts in the Park delivers family fun entertainment and a chance to enjoy good music under the stars. The City of Santa Clarita’s Arts and Events Office hold the concert series at Central Park and give a chance for performers to play and entertain a large crowd.

On August 4, the Concerts in the Park were host to the Texaco Country Showdown, America’s largest country music talent show. The Showdown is a chance for undiscovered singers and bands to share their musical talent locally, regionally, and even nationally. All contestants begin the competition at a participating local radio station – one of them being Santa Clarita’s very own KHTS AM 1220.

Santa Clarita’s two finalists, Jessica Marie, an individual performer, and Poor Man’s Poison, a country/rock band, competed in the local Showdown.

With their song Greedy Man, Poor Man’s Poison won the local Showdown and would move on in the competition.

Poor Man’s Poison advanced to the state Showdown and won once again advancing further to the regional Showdown.

Poor Man’s Poison won the crowd when they performed in the KHTS portion of the Texaco Country Showdown at Santa Clarita’s Concerts in the Park, said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS
Poor Man's PoisonAM-1220 radio. They have a very special sound that I believe can get them to through the championship. I am thrilled they won the State finals, “how cool is that?”

Continuing in their success, Poor Man’s Poison momentum and sound carried them to yet another victory in the regional Showdown to propel them into the National Final. The winner of the National Final held January 17, 2013, will receive $100,000 as well as the fame that comes with winning America’s largest country music talent contest.

The National Final will be held in Nashville with singing star Jewel as host.
