“We are very blessed to live in such a wonderful place and have such great friends,” said Tricia Welch, whose husband, Rick, is undergoing physical therapy to recover from a stroke July 31. “Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do it. It means the world to me.”

Rick Welch is a Santa Clarita resident and law enforcement officer working to get healthier at a physical and occupational therapy facility in Bakersfield, while Tricia, who’s a personal trainer, is also managing the household and three children.

She’s taken a brief leave from the gym she works at to be there more for her family; however, her co-workers and employer have also been incredibly supportive, she said.

In fact, they’re getting together Saturday for a class that’ll teach fitness and be a fundraiser for the Welches.

The Rick Welch Fundraiser is being hosted by gym owner Tchicaya Missamou on Saturday at the gym on the 23600 block of Diamond Place in Santa Clarita.

“We will be having a fun workout to raise funds to help the Welch family. JOIN US!” reads the Facebook post.

The Facebook post of the event lists spin, boxing, battel fit [sic], weight training and stretching as elements of the two-hour workout.

The workout session is scheduled for 8-10 a.m. Saturday, August 26.

Rick Welch is currently in stable condition, but physical therapy can be a long and costly journey, especially when the treatment requires frequent trips to Bakersfield. The fundraiser is meant to help the family and “Rick to be able to focus getting better,” according to a friend who put together a YouCaring page.
