Generous Donors Give Gordo A Brighter Future

LACoAnimalCareFoundationlogoThe response that the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation (ACF) has received on behalf of the abused pit bull puppy, Gordo, has been tremendous.  The ACF is overwhelmed by the public’s generosity and for the care, concern, and good wishes expressed for Gordo.

The ACF is happy to report that Gordo is doing very well.  Thanks to the public’s generosity, Gordo was able to have surgery on Monday, April 30.  Although the surgery was more complex than initially anticipated, he is otherwise healthy and doing well.

Once the vet releases him, he will be placed into foster care to further recover.  Once he recovers and begins his follow up rehabilitation treatments, he will be available for adoption.  The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) currently has a lengthy list of potential adopters.  DACC will ensure Gordo is adopted into a home that best suits his needs.

GORDOGordo, the four-month old pit bull mix puppy, was brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on April 18, by his caretakers, who brought him to the Care Center after his previous owners allegedly threw him against a wall and repeatedly kicked him, while under the influence of drugs, resulting in a fractured lateral condyle, which needed extensive surgery to repair.

Gordo’s surgery and follow up care was made possible by the ACF’s “Dreams Come True” fund, which exists to help pets like Gordo, who come to our animal care centers with extraordinary needs and helps fund special surgeries and procedures. The Fund saves the lives of pets whose injuries (or illnesses) are too extensive and too costly to treat through the normal course of shelter veterinary services.

If you would like to partner with the Animal Care Foundation to fund the Dreams Come True program (or any other program the ACF sponsors), visit http://www.lacountyanimal.org. Donations can be made directly on the ACF’s website or they can be mailed to:
