Gentle Barn Rescues 10 Dogs From Ohio Animal Shelter

Ohio_dog_through_fenceRecently, Ellie and Jay Weiner, Presidents of The Gentle Barn, were shocked to hear about a mass euthanasia that took place at a dilapidated dog shelter in Cadiz, Ohio.

Yesterday, Jay took the first flight out to Ohio, rented a van, and bought the necessary supplies to save as many dogs as he could. All dogs were euthanized except for 10.

The shelter proved to be a horrible living condition for the dogs. They were freezing due to lack of indoor shelter and poor weather conditions in Ohio, the food and water in their bowls were frozen over, and the dogs’ coats were caked with ice.

“The fact that this is happening in America is just unimaginable,” said Ellie. “There is no excuse.”

The 10 dogs that the Weiner’s have saved are currently being diagnosed and medicated by veterinarians to try and restore them back to health. Ellie says that a few of the dogs are in fatal condition due to canine parvovirus, a contagious and deadly disease found in malnourished and neglected dogs.

The Gentle Barn needs our help. The vet bills are rising and the barn is asking for donations. Ellie says that though it may be costly and time consuming, it is worth it in order to save these helpless dogs and raise awareness about this situation.

“We need financial support we need to be able to pay for the vet bills to care for these animals who have been so badly treated,” said Ellie. She says that she wants make as much noise as possible in order to force the Ohio authority to change this situation.

Once healed, the dogs will be placed in homes in Ohio. Dogs that cannot find homes in Ohio will find their way here to California. At that time, Ellie and Jay will be in search of foster homes and permanent homes for the dogs.

This situation is urgent and Ellie and Jay need as much help as they can get in order to save the lives of these neglected and abused dogs.
