This years Great California ShakeOut follows the widely popular drill that took place last year, where nearly 5.5 million Southern Californians participated.

The “earthquake” will hit at 10:15 a.m., and businesses, schools, and residents all over California will stop, drop and hold.

The ShakeOut is designed to simulate a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hits along the San Andreas fault; and inform participants on how to protect themselves during earthquakes and get prepared at work, school and home.

Along with schools and businesses, others like the U.S Geological Survey, Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), and the American Red Cross will participate to test their emergency preparedness.
