Local salon cuts hair for pancreatic cancer research

On Sunday, Capelli Salon in Newhall will hold its 3rd annual Cut-A-Thon to benefit Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan).

Cutting women’s hair for $20 and men’s and children’s hair for $10, the salon hopes to raise $1,000. Along with getting a haircut, guests will have the opportunity to purchase Pancreatic Cancer Awareness pins for a $5 donation.

“Every little bit helps,” said Sabina Fetter, owner of Capelli Salon. “Anything is better than nothing. It’s such under-funded research.”

In the past, proceeds from the event have benefited the Domestic Violence Center and the American Cancer Society. After Fetter’s mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, she decided to redirect her efforts to raise support for pancreatic cancer research.

“There are so many people and so much stuff going on,” Fetter explained. “This is my way to give back.”

With a survival rate of only five percent, pancreatic cancer is the most lethal cancer in the United States.
