Girl Assaulted While Running In Valencia

khts_crime_genericSheriff’s deputies say city is still safe despite third sexual assault in a month.

A teenage girl was sexually assaulted Sunday afternoon while running on a local bike path.

The 16-year-old girl was running on the South Fork Trail in Valencia when she passed a man who turned around and began following her.

The girl exited the trail and headed west on Valencia Boulevard towards Citrus Street.  When the teen stopped, the man reportedly grabbed the girl’s buttocks with both hands, according to sheriff’s Lt. Brenda Cambra.

The suspect is described as an African American male, 5 foot 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, between the ages of 20 to 25,

The suspect then fled into a nearby paseo, while the girl flagged down a passer-by and called deputies.

Deputies responded and searched the area for the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a black and orange baseball cap, but were unable to locate him.

This assault comes on the heels of a Friday morning assault where a 44-year-old woman was attacked while walking near the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard, and the August 20 rape of a Castaic woman, but Sheriff’s officials deny any connection between the three cases.

As a precaution Cambra advises residents to run or walk with a buddy.

“If something is suspicious go somewhere populated like an open store or even the Sheriff’s station,” said Cambra.

Anyone with any information about the suspect or the incident is urged to call the Santa Clarita Valley sheriffs station at (661) 255-1121.
