Glendale Man Drowns At Lake Piru

Search and Rescue Divers have recovered the body of a Glendale man who drowned Saturday afternoon at Lake Piru, after rough water prevented him from returning to the boat he was swimming near.

Roberto Barrios, 36, was swimming in the lake near a pontoon boat when winds pushed the boat away from him and two other swimmers, according to Ventura County Sheriffs.

A nearby boat was able to rescue the two other swimmers, but neither boat could reach Barrios before he went under water.

A Sheriff’s helicopter with a rescue swimmer searched the area shortly after the incident and a search and rescue team of divers was called out to continue the search.

According to Captain Tim Hagel, alcohol and foul play have been ruled out.

“This is truly an accident,” said Hagel.
