What better way is there for the principal and his senior staff of a local high school to show support for arts and music education than waiting on student’s tables and bussing dishes?
This is exactly what they have agreed to do from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 26 at the Chili’s restaurant on Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country.
The event will be hosted by GVHS Principal Sal Frias and the wait staff will include Carolyn Hoffman, Joel Nelson, Christine Benitez, Cameron Yassaman, Eran Zeeviâ and
music department director Roger Brooks and assistant Hector Juarez.

During the evening, the student body, their family and friends and other customers will be able to give orders to the staff and insist that their food and beverages be prepared to their liking.
The event is a special way to generate donations to the Golden Valley High School arts and music programs. Fifteen percent of sales from this evening and every Wednesday following will help fund programs such as choir, theater and music (including jazz, concert and marching bands and the color guard).
The Staff Serving Students GVHS Wednesdays at Chili’s is the brainchild of Chili’s Golden Valley manager Jeff Stelnick and has been running now since the 2010 school season and will continue through the end of 2011 semester in May.
“This was something I wanted to do for them to help kick-start the weekly events for 2011, since interest had fallen off a bit during the holidays,” Stelnick said.
Everyone is invited to participate in the event and flyers must be presented in order for GVHS to receive the 15% donation. The flyers can be downloaded and printed from www.goldenvallyband.com. The Golden Valley HS band and color guard are sponsored by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, (http://www.lockheedfcu.org/), KHTS 1220 AM radio and Dan Ruffner Plumbing (661-714-1004). Chili’s is located at 19071 Golden Valley Road.
