UPDATE: Due to weather concerns the event has been moved into the weight room. The awards ceremony will be held in the gym following the lifting session
The Golden Valley High School football team isn’t just sitting around during this off season. The team will be holding a lift-a-thon to raise money for their team.
Students are raising money by either acquiring pledges for each pound lifted or a flat donation.
“They [players] can get donations from businesses, families, or neighbors and the community,” said Andy Campbell, Golden Valley High School’s Head Football Coach. “Were trying to get everybody to bring in $200 for the program. With that they get a shirt, shorts, and a compression girdle for the football season. Every dollar after that goes directly to their summer camp and their spirit pack for the fall.”
Thursday, April 1 is the final night, which will end with the Night Of Champions. At the event, players will be tested on skills such as the bench press, dead lift, and squats. They will also be tested in other agility events through the week such as vertical and broad jump.
The winner of each category will receive an award at the end of the night.
The event will help kids prepare for the next season of high school football, which begins with fall practice on Saturday, August 7.
The Night Of Champions will start at 4 p.m. in the school’s amphitheater and attendance is free.
