AT&T Champions Classic Opens.
[view:node_ad=5]With last year’s winner Tom Purtzer making a strong showing Friday, the Valencia Country Club welcomed the first day of golf for the AT&T Champions Classic. Nick Price was the leader after Friday's round, finishing the day at six under par. Purtzer's five under par was good enough for a second place finish Friday, followed by Dana Quigley at four under.
The tournament will go on through Sunday, with each golfer’s daily totals added up to determine their scores. The race is tight as of day one, and look for the battles to continue before spectators Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for the AT&T Champions Classic are still on sale.
For those who have never witnessed a game of professional golf, the atmosphere is generally relaxed, as spectators follow their favorite golfers through the course. Beverages and snacks are available throughout the course, which in itself is attractive to the eye.
While the golfers are taking their shots the audience is asked to be silent, although that silence usually ends abruptly the moment after the club hits the ball.
Another interesting aspect of professional golf is some of the occupations associated with it. For example, at the start of the tournament, a tournament official had to check each golfer’s equipment to ensure the player is not in violation of any sponsorship duties they have to uphold. This includes playing with the right clubs, ball, even wearing the proper hat.
Also, caddies are a legitimate job. Word has it there are several caddies who make a very good full time living doing just that. Fresh air, exercise, beautiful scenery…doesn’t sound too bad!
By far the most impressive thing about the tournament is the professionalism. Major stars, major stakes and a spectator friendly environment make the event a unique one for Santa Clarita. For the fan, it’s a chance to get nearly interactive with the pros, and follow them along their daily path.
