Karen Kukurin meets with Chamber, honors Man and Woman of the Year winners.
This morning was spent zipping across the Santa Clarita Valley for Karen Kukurin, Deputy Director and Community Liaison for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It started off with the Governor hearing about the Man and Woman of the Year awards, in which Judy Penman and Carl Goldman took the honors for 2008. The award recognizes outstanding community volunteerism, and Penman was nominated by Circle of Hope and the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita. Goldman, co-owner of this station, was nominated by Zonta, the SCV Theatre Project, Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition and the Providence Holy Cross Foundation.
Governor Schwarzenegger had asked Kukurin to visit the Man and Woman of the Year award ceremony a few weeks ago, however an unexpected circumstance forced her to postpone. This time around, she was available to spend the better part of a day here in Santa Clarita. She spent her time touring the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, and visited with several community and business leaders.

Some on-air time was squeezed in on KHTS AM 1220, in which Kukurin honored Penman and Goldman for their volunteer efforts. “Both of these people are model citizens of California with selfless devotion to community service and philanthropic organizations,” she told the honorees. “I’m here today to deliver a personal message from the Governor.”
That message thanked Penman and Goldman for their work and included a printed copy of the Governor’s words.
