Traffic slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon when police found a suspicious item in a car left in a commuter lot.
A CHP officer getting ready to write a parking ticket for an
abandoned truck in the Park-and-Ride at Via Princessa spotted a hand grenade on
the truck’s console and called a supervisor.
The CHP and sheriff’s deputies worked in tandem to
secure the area so the bomb squad could safely remove the grenade.
The grenade was removed without incident and the area cleared shortly after 1 p.m.
