Maria Gutzeit was elected to serve as President of the Board of Directors and B.J. Atkins to serve as Vice President for the Newhall County Water District at its regular board meeting last Thursday.
The pair will serve a one-year term in their respective offices.

Gutzeit is a chemical engineer and owner of Compliance Plus, an environmental regulatory consulting firm working with industry. She was first elected to the Board in 2003 and re-elected in 2005 and 2009, served as president in 2005, 2006 and 2009 and has served as vice president in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011.
“I am so proud of the efficiencies the district has achieved in this challenging economy,” she said. “It is exciting to work with a public agency so committed to looking for innovative ways to meet the public needs for safe, reliable water.”
Atkins is owner of Atkins Environment H.E.L.P., Inc., an environmental regulatory consulting firm. He has served on the NCWD Board since first being elected in 2005, and re-elected in 2009. He has served as Board President in 2008 and 2010. In January 2009, he was appointed NCWD liaison member to the CLWA Board.

Newhall County Water District traces its roots back to 1913 and is the Santa Clarita Valley’s first public water utility, currently providing service to more than 44,400 residents in portions of the City of Santa Clarita and unincorporated Los Angeles County communities, including Newhall, Canyon Country, Valencia and Castaic.
