Habitat For Humanity Looking For Volunteers In Newhall

Volunteers sought to help with home rehab for Heads Up caretaker

Habitat For Humanity is inviting Santa Clarita residents and their friends to join a group effort to rebuild the home of Jim Tindell, the Heads Up caretaker who was severely burned in the Buckweed Fire of October 2007.

Workers will join Habitat regulars and volunteers from The Gas Company on June 14 to rehabilitate Tindell’s home. The family was completely burned out of their home on the Bouquet Canyon property of Heads Up.

Tindell suffered burns to his face and hands as he tried to evacuate horses used in the therapeutic program, leading them through a solid wall of fire. Every horse survived, but Tindell spent four months in the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks.

Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.. To volunteer, call Joyce Grair at Habitat at (818) 884-8808, or e-mail jgrair@HumanityCA.org
