Gary Player coming back to Santa Clarita's coveted golf
tournament.
Valencia Country Club for the AT&T
Champions Classic golf tournament.
While the annual tournament always includes the "who's who"
of Champions Tour talent, golf legend Gary Player has announced that he will
also return for the AT&T Champions Classic. The last time he played in Valencia
was 2002.
A World Golf Hall of Fame member, Player has won 163
tournaments worldwide, including 24 on the PGA
Tour and 19 on the Champions Tour. Along
the way, Player captured the career Grand Slam, winning three Masters
Tournaments, three British Opens (in three different decades, 1959, 1968, and
1974), two PGA Championships and one U.S.
Open. He also owns six career Champions
Tour majors.
Other big names already locked in to the tournament include
last year's winner Denis Watson, along with Nick Price, Brad Bryant, Tom
Purtzer, and others. Loren Roberts will also take to the greens this year,
following two consecutive second-place finishes. In 2007 and 2008, he narrowly
lost in playoff matches.
The actual tournament runs Friday, March 13th through Sunday
March 15th; however popular events are scheduled throughout the week preceding
the main tournament. Pro-am matches are
still available to interested fans and this year the AT&T Champions Classic
is offering free admission during the practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday
(March 9th and 10th). Admission is also free for spectators interested in
watching the Pro-am action.
