Halloween Tradition Alive and Well in Stonecrest

Every year, Bob Baida’s home is transformed. It changes from a modern, suburban house to a nightmarish scene with tombstones in the lawn and mummies at the front door. Even as a courageous and valiant news reporter such as myself…it still keeps me looking over my shoulder.

That’s the point, of course, and Bob spends two weeks every year setting it up. His garage is completely transformed into a haunted house and the outside of his house lights up the whole street.

This marks the 5th year that Bob has done this event and every year it gets bigger. “Its fun for the kids, but it’s also fun for me!” Says Bob, who also goes all out for Christmas. “I have a sign out in front that says ‘Adults $1, Children of All Ages Free’ and people still try to give me money.”

It’s that sort of enthusiasm that makes communities. The fun and tradition of the holiday season all too often gets stuffed behind other menial tasks of our daily lives. But should you bear witness to Bob’s street tonight, you will see it come alive. Neighbors, family and friends will gather around one location and simply enjoy the night.

This year, Bob will be collecting canned food for the SCV Food Pantry at the site of his haunted house.

The haunted house is open from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and is on Everglades Street in Stonecrest.
