Hart Board Will Consider Castaic School Site Master Planner

khts_schools_chalkboardCompany could set criteria for choosing a Castaic High site.

At tonight’s William S. Hart School District Board meeting, a vote could move the Castaic High School site selection process forward.

The District’s growth committee interviewed four firms that could complete a master plan for Castaic High, and chose Vanir Construction Management. Should the board offer final approval, Vanir would then analyze both sites being considered for Castaic High School; a District-owned property on Hasley Canyon Road (Hasley/Sloan) and a site on Romero Canyon Road owned by local developer Larry Rasmussen.

That project would include developing site selection criteria for the board and independently assessing each site in a variety of facets including:

  • Location
  • Public Services
  • Accessibility
  • Soils
  • Topography
  • Utilities
  • Size and Shape
  • Availability
  • Public Acceptance
  • Cost
  • Environmental impacts
  • Safety
  • Schedule

Under the terms of the proposed contract, Vanir would also be responsible for holding public meetings and ordering the completion of additional studies.

As written, the project is designed to take six months to complete, at a price of $568,853. The funding would come from Measure SA funds.

Vanir Construction Management has worked on several projects with the Hart District before; they were selected to run the current modernization project, as well as constriction projects for the JROTC facility at Valencia High and the gymnasium at Rancho Pico Jr. High.

The Board’s regular meeting begins at 6:45 p.m.

On November 19, the Hart Board had voted to pursue additional consideration for the Hasley/Sloan site and the Romero Canyon site. Read more on these two locations by clicking here.

In other Hart District news, the Board will hold a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. to discuss hiring a firm to search for a replacement for Superintendent Jaime Castellanos.

Castellanos announced his retirement two weeks ago, and he will vacate his office in June.

RJ Gatti Associates has submitted a proposal to conduct the search and screening of applicants totaling $25,375.00. RJ Gatti Associates previously coordinated the last Superintendent search, in which Castellanos was selected.

The board will also determine if candidates should be drawn from a state and/or national pool.
