With the end of the school year winding down many eighth-grade students in the Santa Clarita Valley should be finding themselves looking forward to their promotion ceremonies, but budget cuts slashed those hopes earlier this year.
Those cuts however didn’t stop the determination of many students, and at least two schools in the Hart District will be celebrating eighth-grade promotion.
These celebrations are outside of the district ceremonies, which were canceled in April due to budget problems with the district.
Sierra Vista Junior High’s Hunter Kozak vowed to have an eighth-grade promotion ceremony for his school and according to an email sent to KHTS, he has a location for the ceremony and also some big name officials confirmed as guests.

Students from Arroyo Seco Junior High inspired by Kozak’s story started their own campaign for a promotion ceremony.
Using Facebook, and a website the Arroyo Seco students teamed up with 25Score and raised enough money to rent out the Hyatt Grand Ballroom on June 4th.
If you would like to help the students, 25Score is donating 40 percent of the proceeds raised by entering promotion code JRHIGH2010 to the fundraiser.
