An instructional assistant at Rio Norte Junior High was arrested Friday in Kern County, along with her daughter, for offering sexual favors on the internet.
Katherine Silvers and daughter Sarah Sunshine were taken into custody at their home in the 5200 block of Frazier Park Road when detectives from a task force of the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Department responded to an ad on craigslist.com and backpage.com for a one-hour mother-daughter special massage for $250 with a $60 “bonus smile_massage_smile.”
“The two ladies offered to perform a sexual act with the undercover officer,” said Sgt. Mark Brown of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. “They accepted the money and immediately took their clothes off.”
The two were booked at the Bakersfield Police Station shortly after 5 p.m. Friday and were released with citations at 2:20 a.m. Saturday morning. They are scheduled to appear in court in Taft Division A, Oct. 19.
Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Rochelle Neal confirmed that Silvers was a district employee and worked as an instructional assistant at Rio Norte Junior High School. Because the situation could become a personnel issue, she could not comment on Silvers’ particular case, but said that because the incident happened on Silvers’ personal time, she would have to consult with the district’s legal counsel. She added that the arrest would “not necessarily” result in the employee’s dismissal.
