The week of February 4-8 has been designated National School Counseling Week by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). The event is meant to focus the public’s attention on the impact and contribution that school counselors make in students’ learning experiences and their careers.
Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. The combination of their training and experience helps them identify and utilize community resources that can help students reach their full potential.

William S. Hart Union High School District President Joseph Messina signed a resolution honoring the 58 Hart District school counselors this past January. Messina praised school counselors for their commitment to working with Santa Clarita students, teachers and parents explore students’ abilities, talents and interests, and to help students set realistic goals for themselves.
“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, personal/social skills and career awareness in post-secondary options,” said Kwok-Sze Wong, Ed.D., ASCA executive director. “School counselors are integral to student success.”
