Rankings based on test scores.

 

 

Eight Hart District schools rank among the top 20 percent of schools in the State of California based on a statewide ranking released this week by the California Department of Education. The ranking is based on standardized test results from spring 2007 which were released last August.

 

Rio Norte Junior High School ranked highest, coming in the top 10th decile, which places it in the top 10 percent of schools in the state, based on the state’s Academic Performance Index (API). Rio Norte has an API score of 860, well above the 800 threshold which the state has set as a target for all schools.

 

Academy of the Canyons, the Hart District’s middle college high school, also rated in the 10th decile with an API score of 846.  As a “small school,” its decile rankings are slightly different than the district’s comprehensive schools with similar scores.

 

Close behind is Rancho Pico Junior High, with an API score of 859. That score placed it in the ninth decile, along with Arroyo Seco and Placerita junior high schools, and Hart, Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch high schools.

 

[view:node_ad=5]Canyon High School ranked in the eighth decile, which placed it in the top 30 percent of schools in the state, along with the district’s independent study school, Learning Post High School,  with an API score of 774. La Mesa and Sierra Vista junior high schools ranked in the seventh decile, followed by Golden Valley High School, in the fifth decile.

 

The District has had its API scores since last August and already has implemented a number of intervention programs for schools which did not meet the growth goals set by the state, or those which scored low against other schools in the state which have similar student populations.

 

Local schools will receive their new API scores in August, based on this spring’s test results. Hart District schools which already have scores over 800 have no growth targets, while the majority of local junior and senior high schools with scores under 800 are required to increase their scores by at least five points. Valencia High School, which has an API of 797, has a growth target of 3 points, which will take it to the state goal of 800 points.
