Hart District Teachers Selected To Read, Score AP Exams

hartdistlogoREDHart District high school teachers have been selected for the distinguished honor of reading and scoring of the College Board’s Advanced Placement Examinations, in various subjects, this month.

 

This year, more than 3.2 million examinations from more than 30 AP courses will be evaluated by more than 10,000 AP Readers from universities and high schools. Representing many of the finest academic institutions in the world, AP Readers are made up of professional educators from the United States, Canada and abroad.

All six Hart District comprehensive high schools have AP Readers on staff this year and in the past, including:

  • Martin Kirby, AP Physics, Hart HS – Mr. Kirby is also on a three-person committee that creates the test for his area.John Ahart, Environmental Science, Hart HS
  • Francois Wolman, AP French, Canyon HS
  • Louise Davies, AP Language and Composition, Golden Valley HS
  • David Moeller, AP English, Valencia HS
  • Cindy Pharis, AP Studio Art, Valencia HS
  • David Duncan, AP Spanish, Valencia HS – Mr. Duncan has been an AP Reader for more than15 years.
  • Victor Limon, AP English, Valencia HS
  • Andrea Douglas, AP English, West Ranch HS
  • Laura Arrowsmith, AP US History, West Ranch HS
  • Shallu Makan, AP Biology, West Ranch HS
  • Adam Miller, AP World History / AP European History, Saugus HS

“The Reading draws upon the talents of some of the finest teachers and professors that the world has to offer,” Trevor Packer, vice president of the Advanced Placement Program at the College Board said. “It fosters professionalism, allows for the exchange of ideas, and strengthens the commitment to students and to teaching. We are very grateful for the contributions of talented educators that assist us from the Hart School District.”

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP®) gives more than 1.8 million capable high school students an opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, successful students can receive college credit and / or advanced placement when they enter college.

Last year, 2,710 Hart District students took 4,499 tests, meaning some students took multiple subject tests. The number of students taking the exam rose 10 percent from the previous year. This year, the Hart District offered 27 different AP classes.
