The public meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in the district’s boardroom.
“We are looking forward to the appointment of a new board member who will, along with the other four members, continue to guide the district toward continued success,” said Gail Pinsker, Hart district spokeswoman.
“The board is looking forward to interviewing each of the 12 candidates, who have expressed a strong interest in serving the community in this capacity,” she said.
The meeting is scheduled to run until at least 7:30 p.m., according to district documents. However, that schedule doesn’t include the discussion of the board’s selection and an accompanying vote.
There are currently 12 candidates remaining, after two requested their names be removed from the list.
The remaining 12 applicants are Kane Crawford, Michael Cruz, Chris Fall, Bruce Fox, Steven Herskovitz, John Kunak, Dean Morris, Barbara Myler, Brian Springer, Richard Shaw, Betti Sternberg and Tony Watson.
Ken Dean and Randal Winter withdrew their names from consideration from the position, according to Hart district officials.
Here’s the schedule for the Hart district’s special board meeting.
“We as trustees take this very seriously,” said governing board President Joe Messina. “This is is the most important decision we will make as board members,” he said, noting provisional appointees work in the exact same capacity as their elected counterparts.
At the May 15 board meeting, governing board members voted to make a provisional appointment to fill the remainder of the term for former board member Paul Strickland, who resigned effective May 1.
The candidates have cleared the requirements, including being at least 18 years of age, a resident of the Hart district’s area, a registered voter in the State of California and not be disqualified from holding civil office by the constitution or any law of the State of California.
After the board makes an appointment, a short Special Board Meeting is scheduled for June 19, prior to the scheduled regular meeting, when the oath will be administered to the appointee, according to district documents.
