Hart District To Foster Business Partnerships, Career Opportunities

hartdistlogoREDThe Wm. S. Hart School District is rededicating its commitment to providing Career Technical Education (CTE) programs to students through business partnerships that will focus on providing students job shadowing and internship opportunities.

Previously, the SCV School & Business Alliance was responsible for similar programs, but after 16 years of service to the community, it has been restructured under Hart District oversight. The Alliance had been funded through a memorandum of understanding with the Hart District for $50,000 annually, donations and fundraising efforts, and a grant from College of the Canyons, which expired this year. The Hart District will now direct previously allocated funds from this organization toward impacting Hart District students through direct school site channels.

Through leadership from Hart District department of curriculum and assessment, the area of career preparation will remain a priority for students seeking a vocational career path. Pam Malowe will serve as the Career Development Coordinator and will work with businesses to provide job shadow and internship opportunities for Hart District students.

“Pam will serve a vital role in connecting students to local business and industry through the creation of job-shadowing activities and internship opportunities that are all tied to CTE curriculum,” LeBarron said. “The Hart District is committed to preparing students to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing world of work.”

The Hart District will continue to work collaboratively with College of the Canyons through a Career Technical Education partnership, funded through the Senate Bill 70 Community Collaborative Grant.

SB 70 provides funding for career technical educational opportunities for middle and high school students, and improved linkages between the career and technical curricula of the public schools and community colleges.

Business and industry leaders interested in offering internships and mentoring opportunities to high school students, can contact: Pam Malowe at or 661.259.0033 x. 232.
